After entering assignment progress, the Summary sub-tab of the Task Progress details page can be reached to view the rollup of progress details from the assignment level.
Effort and Cost section:
This section shows the Plan, Actual and ETC values (both effort and cost) for the workplan task. The values are rolled up from the resource assignments.
Effort: Plan, Actual, ETC effort shown for the task is the sum of plan, actual and ETC efforts of all the resource assignments to the workplan task. Note that only the assignments belonging to the People or Equipment resource classes contribute to the effort values (plan, actual and ETC).
Cost: Plan, Actual and ETC Cost for the task is the sum of plan, actual and ETC cost of all the resource assignments to the workplan task.
% Complete and % Spent figures are computed at the task level based on the rolled up Plan, Actual and ETC figures.
For a summary task, the effort/cost figures are shown as the sum of those at the sub-task level as well as the resource assignment values for any resource assignment at the summary task level.
Assume: SIT1 is a summary task with a summary task assignment for Amy. Actuals :50 hours, $ 500; ETC: 70Hrs, $700.
The task has subtasks:
T1: Actuals: 100 Hrs, $ 1000; ETC: 150 Hrs, $ 1500
T2: Actuals: 250 Hrs, $ 2500; ETC: 200 Hrs, $ 2000
The summary task SIT1 will show the following:
Actual: 400 Hrs, $ 4000; ETC: 420 Hrs, $ 4200
Work Quantity :
If Work Quantity is enabled for the task and the project, you can enter the Actual Work Quantity in this section. If the Task has Physical % Complete derivation method as Work Quantity, then the Physical % Complete is calculated using the formula :
Earned Value :
The following earned value metrics are calculated automatically based on the progress entered and rolled up:
1. Planned Value (also called as the budgeted cost of work scheduled)

Planned value as of 05-APR-2014 is calculated as follows:
Baseline Cost till previous periods = 200 + 400 + 500 = 1100
Baseline Cost for APR-11 = 450
(As of Date – Period Start Date) + 1 = 5
(Period End Date – Period Start Date) + 1 = 30
So prorated baseline cost = 5/30 * 450 = 75
Planned Value as of 05-APR-2014 = 1100 + 75 = 1175.
NOTE: Planned values are calculated separately for each resource assignment and then rolled up to task level by adding PV’s of all resource assignments.
1. Baseline costs for previous periods means sum of baseline costs for the periods before the period in which as of date falls.
2. Baseline costs of this period means the baseline cost of the period in which ‘As of’ date falls.

Note: All the Earned Value calculations are based on the Total Planned Cost in the Baselined workplan version. This is what is referred to as BAC in the formulae above.
The Estimated start/finish date and Actual start/finish date shown at the Task level are rolled up from the resource assignments.
